Nov 19, 2025

The University of Yamanashi was selected for the Program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS) and is accelerating efforts to enhance its research capabilities.

On November 18th, 2025, the University of Yamanashi hosted a J-PEAKS site visit at its Kofu campus. The site visit is part of mentoring and support initiatives under the J-PEAKS and focuses on reviewing progress and identifying challenges through on-site review of core research hubs and in-person discussions with the university’s Executive Board, including the President. A total of 32 participants joined the event, including Professor Hatsumi Mori (Institute for Solid State Physics, The University of Tokyo), who is a supporter for the University of Yamanashi, other J-PEAKS supporters, representatives from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), as well as liaisons and liaison representatives from other selected universities, in line with the objective of “promoting the sharing of best practices and collaboration among selected universities.”

A comprehensive Q&A session covering the following four initiatives promoted by our university took place during the discussion.
1)Strengthening Cutting-Edge Research
2)Technology Transfer Acceleration
3)Talent Development
4)Brain Circulation across sectors & levels
Through this session, the participants not only deepened their understanding of these initiatives but also provided numerous valuable insights that will enhance our future efforts.

During the facility tour of the newly constructed research and education building called “Zero Emission Mirai Lab”, the participants were given explanations of the functions and roles of each room including future utilization plans for each. At the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Nanomaterials Center, participants were also introduced to the cutting-edge research environments, including electron microscopes, automated experimental systems, and fuel cell evaluation devices whose installations are currently underway.

Through this site visit, we received numerous comments from participants indicating that this site visit deepened their understanding of the University of Yamanashi’s research capabilities and initiatives.
